Sunbury Downs College is a Year 7-12 co-educational Secondary College situated in the regional town of Sunbury, 37 kms North West of Melbourne. It is a growing co-educational secondary College with student’s numbers exceeding 800.

We offer a rich program in an environment with strong student management, high expectations and educational outcomes. The College regards itself as an academic school with a wide range of programs. There is a strong emphasis on core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities; complemented by programs in the Arts/Technology, Performing Arts, Physical Education/Health and Languages. We also offer a wide range of VCE subjects including some VET studies and a structured rigorous VCAL program.
The College is the only secondary school in the area that offers an Accelerated Curriculum and Enrichment (ACE) Program for academically able students; extending students through a challenging curriculum including early commencement of VCE. The ACE Program is a select entry course with enrolment from our feeder primary schools.

The College is also accredited as an International School Provider with some International students enrolled in the later years.

SDC offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and an inter-school program. There are year level and specialised camps and excursions, including an overseas Italian Study Tour and Interstate Canberra Trip. The College has a well-established student leadership program. Selection Criteria

SC1 Capacity to undertake routine support tasks across a range of functions in one or more work areas within a school environment.

SC2 Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with members of the school community including students and the capacity to provide support and/or attendant care to students where necessary.

SC3 Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software or technical equipment as relevant to the position. CASES21, Compass School Manager, First Class, MS Office Systems, including mail merge.

SC4 Capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including teachers, education support, students and parents.

SC5 Demonstrated capacity to work in a past paced environment requiring time management skills and ability to prioritise

SC6 A commitment to professional learning and growth.


Role

Undertakes routine tasks that are usually carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established and direction is readily available.

Work has little scope for deviation. Problems can usually be solved by reference to well documented procedures and instructions and clearly established practices. Deviation from established procedures will require reference to others for guidance and direction. Assistance is readily available when problems arise. An experienced employee at range 1 will exercise limited judgement within clearly defined guidelines and well established practices that relate specifically to the tasks performed.

Does not carry responsibility for the work of others. More experienced employees will provide basic guidance and advice to others relating to tasks within the work area.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Qualification requirements do not operate at range 1. Certification requirements may be required to legally perform specific tasks - e.g. driver's licence, first aid, safe food handling.


Responsibilities

    Not limited to:

    Assist the Assistant Principals and Mini School Leadership staff in administering late, uniform and early leaver’s passes, absences and medical certificates.

  • Assist in supporting Home group Teachers to sign Student Planners on a weekly basis.
  • Screen and route telephone calls, take and distribute telephone messages and assist in the organisation of parent/guardian meetings in relation to attendance and non-completion of learning outcomes and assessment tasks.
  • Data entry and word processing using CASES21, Compass School Manager, First Class, MS Office Systems, including mail merge.
  • Assist the Mini School in producing high quality student handbooks and other publications
  • Retrieve electronic data and produce routine reports as requested.
  • Assist in information dissemination to the school population via Assistant Principal and Mini School.
  • Participate in team meetings, including writing up agendas and taking and distributing minutes to relevant personnel.
  • Confidential filing as required.
  • Assist in the organisation of school events.
  • At the request of the Principal Class team and Business Manager, perform duties that will assist in the efficient functioning of the College.
  • Perform general reception duties including visitor enquiries, and collect and receipt money from students and parents (as required)
  • Assist in record keeping in regard to student absences and absence reports, retrieve electronic data and produce routine reports as requested.
  • Assist in relocation of internal suspended exited students
  • Assist in the processing and mailing of student exit and suspension paperwork
  • Liaise with Mini School team in regard to support requirements
  • Maintain school record systems, including computerized student and school records
  • Manage calendar and meeting requests of leading teachers in the Mini School
  • Organise the publications of exams
  • Facilitate the College Assembly awards including parent communication
    • Support to the Careers MIPS Officer
    • Understanding of VASS
