About the Role
Hume Libraries has an exciting opportunity for a bilingual or multilingual person to join our Community Engagement Team. As a casual Bilingual Storytime Assistant you will be responsible for conducting Storytime sessions in a variety of community settings throughout Hume. This includes planning and delivering children's activities, providing statistics and feedback, and ensuring delivery of high-quality services to the Hume community. This position will need to maintain effective working relationships both internally and with external providers. You will usually work independently and also as part of a larger team with support available through Hume Libraries.

Duties

• Prepare and present Storytime sessions to parents/carers and children in a wide range of community settings and appropriate Council service points
• Maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, preschools, child-care centres, playgroups, maternal and child health centres and other service providers
• Actively promote library membership, programs and services including to Storytime audiences and early childhood services
• Make referrals to other community services, using provided resources
• Work collaboratively with other staff in a team environment
• Participate in special events, including school holiday programs when required
• Collect and record statistical data for Storytime, special events and school holiday program as required
• Participate in team meetings
• Assist with programs across Council as required

Skills and experience

• Certificate III in Children's Services or similar, Certificate III in Library/Information Services, or equivalent on-the-job experience or training
• Experience and confidence with engaging with children, families and community service providers (e.g. playgroup leaders, preschool educators, etc.)
• Bilingual Storyteller or Playgroup Leader experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability to fluently speak, read, tell stories and write in English and in a language other than English, and preferably a language that is widely spoken in Hume
• Understanding of early language and literacy development
• Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively within a team environment or independently
• Well developed time management and organisational skills
• Functional skills in utilising Microsoft Office applications, email and internet
• Availability to attend professional development sessions, training and team meetings
• Current Victorian Driver License, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel around the municipality
• Current Working with Children Check

Hume City Council is seeking an experienced Community Development professional to coordinate the fifteen Hume Community Hubs, based in primary schools, within a job share arrangement.

The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of the role of Local Government with extensive experience working with multicultural populations, knowledge and understanding of early years frameworks and the Victorian education system, particularly primary schools.

About the role
Hume Libraries has an exciting opportunity for an experienced librarian/team leader to lead the Craigieburn and Mobile Library teams. As the Team Leader - Craigieburn Library, you will be responsible for overseeing the successful daily operations, customer service, implementation of programs and ensuring delivery of high quality library services to the Craigieburn community and surrounding catchment areas.
You will lead, direct, motivate and develop staff of the Craigieburn and Mobile Library teams. This position will need to develop and maintain effective working relationships internally and with external providers.

Duties

• Under the direction of the Coordinator Library Programs and People, lead the branch specific delivery of high-quality library services to both Craigieburn and the Mobile Libraries including day-to-day operations
• Inspire, lead, direct, motivate and develop branch staff at the Craigieburn Library including the Mobile library
• Actively participate in the planning and general leadership of Hume Libraries through the Library leadership team
• Undertake regular customer service duties including regular evening and weekend shifts
• Build and maintain effective, positive collaborative relationships with all stakeholders in the building in which the library is located.
• Collaborate with the Coordinator Library Collections and Promotions on effective integration of collections and promotions into the library and digital literacy programs

Skills and experience
Tertiary qualifications that allow professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and experience in public library operations, service delivery and library management systems

• Relevant experience in the management of library teams, including active supervision
• Relevant stakeholder management experience
• Knowledge and enthusiasm for working in modern public libraries and a demonstrated understanding of their role in the community
• Ability to work within the established Library Leadership team structure and positively contribute to the team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and organise work within set timelines
• Proficient use of all current library management systems, computer applications and software, electronic resources and digital devices
• Experience working in an RFID environment
